Quant Size Compare

Compare published GGUF sizes and short-context VRAM estimates across quants for a parameter count you enter.

One-sentence answer: This calculator uses only the inputs you provide and the formulas printed on this page; it is an educational estimate, not personalized advice, and results change when dated defaults change.

Formula

Rough weight GB ≈ params_B × bytes_per_weight. We use 0.55/0.65/1.0 GB per B as planning stand-ins for Q4/Q5/Q8-class sizes when a specific GGUF is not selected — then apply overhead. Prefer the fit tool with real GGUF sizes when available.

Worked example

8B model: Q4≈4.4GB, Q5≈5.2GB, Q8≈8GB weights before overhead (illustrative).
